16 JMI professors feature in Stanford University's list of top 2% scientists

NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia’s 16 researchers have been listed among the top 2 per cent scientists in the world. The list was prepared by a team of experts led by Prof. John Ioannidis, the eminent Professor at Stanford University and published by Elsevier BV, an official statement read.

Around 3,352 researchers from India found a place in the list that represents the valuable impact of the country on the global research platform, the statement said.

Two separate lists were released by Stanford University. The first coveted list is based on career-long data in which 8 JMI professors found their place. The second list for the year 2020 performance has as many as 16 scientists from JMI, as per the statement.

Professors Imran Ali, Atiqur Rehman, Anjan A Sen, Haseeb Ahsan, Sushant G Ghosh, S Ahmad, Tokeer Ahmad and Dr Mohd Imtaiyaz are included in both the coveted lists while Professors Abid Haleem, Rafiq Ahmad, Tabrez Alam Khan, Mohd Javaid, Arshad Noor Siddique, Musheer Ahmad, Faizan Ahmad and Tarikul Islam have been included in the 2020 list of top 2% scientists.

The publicly available database of over 100,000 top scientists provides standardized information on citations, h-index, and citations to papers in different authorship positions and a composite indicator, the statement said.

Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub- fields. Career-long data are updated to end-of-2020. The selection is based on the top 100,000 by c-score or a percentile rank of 2% or above, the statement added.

JMI Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar said: “It is an acknowledgement of the high standard of research being undertaken at JMI. This recognition places the university in the global map of excellence and brings great pride to the institution.”

Alex P James, associate dean (Academic) of the Digital University Kerala, has also been listed among the top 2 per cent scientists in the world. Six members in the Board of Studies of Digital University Kerala too are on the list of top 2 percent scientists.
