Amity University’s workshop focuses on climate change as a social challenge

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 26: Amity University, Noida, organised a national workshop that focused on climate change as a social challenge requiring concerted efforts from all parts of the society. The event was organised to celebrate the World Environment Health Day which falls on September 26th.

The workshop discussed sustainability as a challenge that requires the active participation of the state and national governments, international bodies, and researchers.

Various experts including bureaucrats, activists, and academicians spoke at the event on the importance of generating sustainable solutions to the problem and the challenges in doing so.

Brijesh Sikka, Advisor, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, spoke about the various efforts undertaken by the government in the conservation of rivers, lakes and wetlands in India. He also spoke about the ministry’s initiative for financing research on sustainability and integrated management

Experts reiterated the necessity of avoiding single-use plastic and the importance of educating people on the measures to curtail waste generation.

Dr. Arun Sharma, Director-Professor, Department of Community Medicine at University College of Medical Sciences, and Head of the Department in University of Delhi, stressed on the importance of research in this topic. “There is a need for micro-level research to inform about the various burdens we face in our country and not rely on data from other countries,” he said.

The national workshop was jointly organized by Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology, Safety and Management, and Amity Institute of Environmental Sciences.
