NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University introduces two welfare schemes on October 2, 2022 during the university's celebrations for Gandhi Jayanti. The university has announced two schemes that are to directly benefit disabled and under privilege students.

In the first scheme, the university announces a total of Rs 25,000 to be transferred directly into the bank accounts of disabled students. The students holding a Below Poverty Line (BPL) card are eligible to receive Rs 25,000 per annum into their bank accounts. BHU aims to keep student welfare and development their 'top-most priority' and plan to launch new schemes with this aim in mind.

BHU vice chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain said, "while institutions and those working there, must be sensitive towards the students with special needs, merely being sensitive isn’t enough. These sensitivities and sensibilities must be translated in measures that benefit the students directly. " He also said that the university might consider increasing the amount of scholarships for students in the future.
