NEW DELHI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a new scheme for international travel support for its researchers, scholars and faculty members by funding a part of the international travels of postdoctoral fellows, PhD scholars and regular faculty members, for participation in overseas conferences, workshops, short training programmes and academic meetings.

Under the scheme, BHU regular faculty members can get financial assistance of up to Rs. 50,000 once in a financial year for visiting SAARC and ASEAN countries, and Rs 1,00,000 for other countries. On the other hand, the postdoctoral fellows and PhD scholars of BHU can get financial support of up to Rs 25,000 once in their tenure for SAARC and ASEAN countries, and Rs 50,000 for all other countries. The scheme also has provisions to extend the benefits to other officers of the university on the basis of merit. The BHU overseas academic travels fund scheme will be managed by the Sponsored Research Industrial Consultancy Cell (SRICC), said a statement from the university.

The BHU funding scheme was approved in the governing body meeting of BHU under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain. According to Jain, there is a need to create more and better opportunities for BHU students and faculty members. He assured that the administration under his tenure will work for the academic and professional growth of members of the BHU fraternity. "This new scheme is reflective of BHU’s endeavour to make its members excel in their respective academic journeys," the university said in the statement.
