NEW DELHI: Being a law entrance exam, the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), gives a significant weightage to the legal aptitude and knowledge of law. As per the consortium of National Law Universities, answering questions from CLAT legal aptitude does not require prior knowledge of law. However, some familiarity with Indian laws and legal principles helps the candidates answer the questions easily.

Around 35 to 39 questions will be asked in CLAT 2022 from the legal aptitude section. Therefore, this section is considered very crucial for getting success in the examination. To get a good score in CLAT legal aptitude, candidates should focus on the concepts, along with the legal current affairs.
As per the CLAT exam pattern and the syllabus, the legal aptitude will have comprehension passages. Each passage will be followed by a series of multiple choice questions.

  • Go through the CLAT syllabus, previous year papers and test pattern to understand the type of questions asked in the examination.

  • Refer to the recommended books for CLAT preparation such as legal aptitude by A. P. Bharadwaj, CLAT companion by Harsh Gagrani.

  • Make short notes on legal current affairs and revise them regularly.

  • Go through the important judgements, laws, amendments and constitution articles

Here are a few CLAT legal aptitude preparation tips you can follow to quickly answer all the questions asked in the legal aptitude section:

  • Make sure that you read the passages and the legal aptitude questions thoroughly to identify the principles.

  • You do not have much time to spend reading questions again and again. So, make sure you read fast and with full concentration on the first time

  • After a thorough reading, try to relate the facts drawn with the question and analyze if they fully support/ justify the argument without any assumptions.

  • Pay attention to the small details and identify all the principles and roles in the passage.

  • Beware of the minor tweaks given in the statements or questions. Hence, paying attention to detail is key here.

  • Do not waste more time on a single question if you cannot identify the correct answer.
