Delhi University VC meets DUSU Office bearers; takes stock of poll process
DUSU vice-president Abhi Dahiya, who is from the Congress-backed NSUI, was not present during the meeting.
NEW DELHI: Delhi University (DU) vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh today met the newly elected Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) office bearers at the council hall of the Vice-Regal Lodge. The VC felicitated DUSU president Tushar Dedha, secretary Aparajita and joint secretary Sachin Baisla.

DUSU vice-president Abhi Dahiya, who belongs to the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) – the student wing of the Congress – missed the meeting due to health reasons. The other three officer bearers of the DUSU are from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP)
Yogesh Singh urged the newly elected DUSU members to work for the betterment of the students and progress of the university. Expressing pleasure at the VC’s gesture, Dedha, Aparajita and Baisla committed to work for the advancement of students, university and the nation.
DUSU poll after four-year gap
DUSU elections were held on September 23 after a gap of four years. The ABVP had bagged three out of four seats. Tushar Dedha from the Department of Buddhist Studies won the president post with 23,460 votes. The NSUI candidate Abhi Dahiya got the vice-president position with a difference of 1,829 votes.
DU VC also congratulated the DUSU election team and allied departments for successfully conducting the poll process. He expressed his gratitude to Delhi Police for the immense support in maintaining law and order, and peaceful conduct of election in all the affiliated colleges of DU. He also thanked the Electronic Commission of India Limited (ECIL) for the repair, programming of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
DUSU chief election officer Chander Shekhar apprised the VC regarding the entire election process. The meeting was attended by dean of colleges Balram Pani, director DU South Campus Prakash Singh, registrar Vikas Gupta, public relation officer Anoop Lather and other DU officials.
