DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh had earlier said that the cut-off based admission system puts students from the boards where the marking is "strict" at a disadvantage.
So far, DU UG admission was based on the Class 12 marks scored by candidates. However, on December 10 the university's academic council (AC) had approved holding a common entrance test for Delhi University UG admissions. The decision was taken based on the recommendation of the nine-member DU committee, set up by the DU Vice Chancellor, which had suggested holding a common entrance test.
Before the confirmation, there were speculations that the Delhi University may conduct its own DU entrance exam and also opinions were divided on the common entrance test for central universities, which was launched in 2010.
Delhi University on December 20 notified that CUCET or Delhi University Common Entrance Test (DUCET) will be conducted for DU admissions from the 2022-23 session onwards.
As per the DU’s official notice, “The Executive Council of the University of Delhi at its meeting held on December 17, 2021, resolved that the admissions for the academic Session 2022-2023 onwards in all undergraduate (UG) courses of the university shall be made through Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) or Delhi University Common Entrance Test (DUCET).”
This year, 12 central universities including Assam University in Silchar, Central University of Gujarat, Central University of Punjab, Central University of Tamil Nadu, Central University of Jharkhand and Central University of Kerala conducted the CUCET 2021.
As per the TOI report, “The question paper for BSc has two parts – Part A is English, general knowledge and numerical ability of 25 marks. While Part B is subject-specific, such as Physics, Chemistry, mathematics and biology with another 25 marks.”
For BA/Diploma, essentially the humanities courses, its English, numerical aptitude/data interpretation, analytical skills, reasoning, general aptitude and general knowledge of 100 marks, it said.
