NEW DELHI: The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) Doctors Association is demanding open round of Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test (INI-CET) 2022 counselling for the July session to fill vacant seats. The doctors’ association wrote to the director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) urging him to look into the matter. AIIMS Delhi announced on September 19 that there will be no further rounds of INI CET counselling 2022 after the second round.

In the letter, FAIMA said that it is writing on the behalf of the residents working at various INIs such as AIIMS Delhi, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) Puducherry, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Bengaluru, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) Trivandrum, and 11 other AIIMS participating in INI CET counselling 2022.

“We are writing to you today with a kind request to look into a matter which is very urgent, extremely important and has been disturbing the residents of various INIs for the last one week. This is to apprise you of the unfortunate sequence of events wherein doctors who qualified INI CET PG entrance examination for July 2022 session were informed of the cancellation of open round of counselling for the current session in the notice issued by AIIMS Delhi,” the letter read.

The doctors association stated that the ‘sudden’ decision left residents in shock who have been waiting for new residents to join the department replacing the pass outs in the last six months. FAIMA also informed that the decision has led to many first year residents leaving their seats in INIs and take up a seat in the ongoing National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) PG 2022 counselling so as not to face the increased departmental workload on their own. “If this happens, with the possibility of a fourth wave in the next few months not completely ruled out, it may be catastrophic for our healthcare system,” it argued.

FAIMA urged the AIIMS director to look into the matter urgently as more than 50% seats are vacant in multiple departments of various institutes which will lead to “immense burden” on junior residents, especially.

“Not only will it become difficult for most of our residents to manage the huge number of patients these hospitals cater to, but also the quality of care which these institutes are known for, will be adversely affected. We hope sir, that you understand our ordeals and would do the needful to address the matter at the earliest,” FAIMA doctors’ association further said.
