NEW DELHI: The Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) has introduced a gamified entrance exam in the GITAM GAT to test logical reasoning and English language skills. The first such test was conducted across all GITAM campuses in Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and GIMSR in March 2023. 8,000 students participated in the test and the number is expected to increase in the next academic years, under phase 2 and 3 of development.
The entrance exam tested fields such as language, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and decision making abilities. It was taken in real-time to make the exam more engaging, reduce stress and exam anxiety, and increase accuracy. System generated questions were created separately for each student to avoid manipulation and plagiarism errors. The students were asked to solve 30 questions in 50 minutes.
Commenting on the new gamified format, PAVS Sekhar, senior director of admissions at GITAM (deemed to be University) said: “By gamifying the test, we hope to encourage students to take an active role in their own learning and help them to develop the skills they need to succeed in their academic pursuits."
Apart from the gamified section of the test, the science-based questions were in MCQ format, while for other courses like BBA, MBA, law, sciences, and humanities, interviews were taken along with online tests. The multiple-choice questions (MCQ) format contained 70 questions in which 30, 30, and 20 MCQs for maths or biology, physics, and chemistry were given, respectively, to be answered within 80 minutes.
GITAM, a deemed-to-be university, was founded in 1980.
