NEW DELHI: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has declared in an official notice that Class 10, 12 students who were absent for the first-term exam will be permitted to take the second-term exam as a one-time opportunity.

According to the board, several students failed to appear for the Term 1 SSC and HSSC examinations in November 2022 without providing a valid reason.

The board's official circular reads: "This matter was extensively deliberated in the examination committee meeting dated March 3, 2023, held at the board's office".

"If the candidate is absent for the first-term exam for whatever reason, he will be awarded zero marks in the First Term. However, they will be permitted to appear in the Second-Term exam as a one-time measure," the circular added.

Moreover, the board also said that if the student is absent for the second term it will be treated as absent in that subject and the final result will be declared as 'Needs Improvement'. Students with the 'Needs Improvement' remark are required to appear in the supplementary examination.

"It is also decided that Syllabus for Supplementary Examination of SSC/HSSC from June/July 2023 will be the entire syllabus. Further, no marks of First or Second Term Examination will be carried forward in the Supplementary Exam", GBSHSE added.

As per the board, the supplementary exam question paper pattern will be subjective with weightage to the content as per the pattern that existed in March 2020. The decision of the entire syllabus in the supplementary exam is applicable for all repeater candidates including the unsuccessful candidates of the April 2023 Class 10, 12 exam.
