NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta organised-crystal jubilee celebration of the Post Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX VLM) – “VLM NEXUS’ 22” was held on March 6, 2022. The programme, which is a brainchild of APJ Abdul Kalam and professor Shoji Shiba, includes participation from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, and IIT Madras. This is the 15th PGPEX VLM batch that is graduating.

The celebration included speeches from many eminent guests such as Peyush Bansal, CEO of Lenskart, Amitabh Saran, CEO of Altigreen Propulsion Labs, and Jyoti Kumar Agarwal, CFO of IndiGrid. The event, inaugurated by professor Uttam Kumar Sarkar, director of IIM Calcutta started with a recapitulation of the VLM batches of the past.

During the event, Bansal said that manufacturing has accelerated the post-pandemic period in India. He also spoke about the importance of leadership in creating a conducive work environment for the development of the Indian manufacturing sector. According to Saran, startups do not fail due to starvation, but due to indigestion. Agarwal pointed out the need for a skilled workforce for India to emerge as one of the top three economies of the world. Sunderraman advised the graduating students to use the learnings from IIM Calcutta, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras as Lego blocks to build their careers.

The founding professors from IIM Calcutta, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras shared their experience during the incubation period of the programme. The professors and the guests wished the graduating batch the very best, and the event concluded with a promise to transform India into a manufacturing superpower.
