IIM Jammu signs agreement to open transit off-campus at University of Ladakh

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu signed an agreement with the University of Ladakh for academic cooperation, faculty exchange, joint research and other areas of mutual interest. Under the agreement, IIMJ will be opening a transit off-campus at the University of Ladakh.

The agreement was signed by IIM Jammu, director, BS Sahay and University of Ladakh, vice-chancellor, SK Mehta. Other faculty and administrative staff along with IIM Jammu, dean of academics, Jabir Ali; Registrar, Ashok Sharma; assistant professor of commerce, Jigmet Stobdan; University of Ladakh, principal Amjad Ali Abbasi were also present during the agreement signing.

The agreement will facilitate both IIM Jammu and University of Ladakh to have faculty and student exchange, joint organising of workshops, sports activities, interactive sessions, short-term education programmes to promote research and explore responsibilities of joint sports carnivals, and providing internship opportunities to students of both the Institutes.

In addition to this, both the institutes will collaborate with each other to offer courses and award certificates in the focus areas of mutual interest, jointly promote research in interdisciplinary areas, exchange information on teaching, learning material, and other literature relevant to their educational and research programmes.

The MoU signing was followed by a group photo session, lunch, and a visit to the IIM Jammu permanent campus at Jagti by the delegates of the University of Ladakh. Previously, the students and faculty from University of Ladakh visited IIM Jammu to the transit Canal Road Campus on December 12 for a study cum exposure visit.

Speaking on the occasion, IIM Jammu, director, BS Saha said: "Today is a historic day for IIM Jammu as the University of Ladakh has agreed to give space in the University of Ladakh Campus for the opening of the Transit Off-Campus in Leh. We will open the transit Off-Campus in Ladakh soon. Both Institutions have agreed to work in the areas of Academic Development, Promotion of Entrepreneurship, Executive Education, Skill Development, Organizing Joint Conferences, Short-Term Education Programmes, Research, Boot Camps, and various other areas. The collaboration between both Institutes will lead to meaningful outcomes in the interest of the stakeholders and lead to sustainable growth and development for the regions of Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh."

Speaking on the occasion, University of Ladakh, vice-chancellor, SK Mehta said: "That the collaboration with IIM Jammu will help us to develop our competence in many key areas ranging from the development of educational and training programs, long-range planning, development of entrepreneurship, better exposure for our faculty, students, and Institutional development. The collaboration between the two reputed Institutes will give a leading edge to the research output of the University of Ladakh. This partnership will lead to the significant exchange of synergies between both Institutes."
