IIM Udaipur: Smriti Irani speaks on necessity, pitfalls of MBA NIRF rankings, gets guest faculty invite
Union minister Smriti Irani inaugurated a month-long activities as part of the International Women’s Day celebration at IIM Udaipur.
NEW DELHI: Union minister of minority affairs Smriti Zubin Irani today talked about the necessity and pitfalls of ranking management institutes at the Indian Institute of Management Udaipur. The minister was also invited to be a guest faculty at IIM Udaipur.
Presenting a research on “The Necessity and Pitfalls of Ranking Management Institutions: The NIRF Experience”, Smriti Irani spoke about the importance of having a National Ranking framework that takes care of India’s huge diversity and that “rewards institutions for doing their bit of ‘care’ for those who are socio-economically disadvantaged”.
The research was led by Smriti Irani and co-authored by Kunal Kumar, a full-time faculty member of IIM Udaipur in HR Area and Sushanta Mishra from IIM Bangalore. Overall, the presentation clarified the necessity of the framework and the challenges faced in rankings.
The Union minister took three back-to-back sessions on Core Course “Human Resource Management” for MBA students each for a duration of 75 minutes on March 1.
“Smriti Irani engaged the MBA class through Case Method wherein she discussed the Harvard Business School’s case “ClubMed.” She based the class on four Ds – Do, Discuss, Debate, and Deliberate. The class ended with the students doing the Job Analysis of a Minister,” the official statement read.
The IIM faculty praised Smiriti Irani’s teaching style and said “the classes were insightful, inspirational, and very well received by the students”.
International Women’s Day
Besides taking classes for MBA students, the minister also inaugurated a month-long activities as part of the International Women’s Day celebration. In her Inaugural speech, she spoke about various government initiatives aiming towards “women's empowerment and appreciating the multi-tasking facet of women and also highlighted a lot of important work being done at the global level”.
IIM Udaipur has also planned a digital sensitisation workshop and upskilling course for women in housekeeping, security and F&B. In addition, essay writing competition, and health and wellness workshops for women faculty and staff will also be organised. “The celebration will culminate in the March end with a three days Holistic Wellness retreat for women leaders across the country in partnership with Coach & Coachee,” IIM Udaipur said.
