NEW DELHI: All students in the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad were successfully placed in the recently-concluded final placement drive for the MBA Class of 2021.

The IIMA placement saw the participation of 131 firms offering 170 different roles this year with Boston Consulting Group offering 32 job roles including pre-placement offers followed by McKinsey with 30 offers, the highest this season. Overall the IIMA placement drive 2021 saw an 80 percent increase in companies hiring.

As per the institute’s “cluster-cohort system”, firms were grouped based on the profile offered, and groups of cohorts were invited to campus across different clusters. This system allowed 86 students to apply for the most preferred, or “dream application” even with a job in hand.

The IIMA placement 2021 was virtually conducted in three phases due to the ongoing pandemic.

Furthermore, 30 firms hired students for roles in diverse sectors such as technology, banking, consulting, general management and analytics. Despite the pandemic restriction, offshore job roles were also offered in Singapore and the Middle East.

IIMA job offers

In the consulting cohort, the supply chain company GEP extended eight offers. Among the investment banks, Nomura was the largest recruiter, hiring seven IIMA students, closely followed by Goldman Sachs and Bank of America–Merrill Lynch, each with five offers.

Compared to last year, the private equity, venture capital and asset management cohort witnessed close to 40 percent increase in participating firms this year.

In the consumer goods domain, consumer electronics and general management domain, HUL, Samsung Electronics and CK Birla Group made six offers including pre-placement offers followed by Lenovo, with five offers. In the IT Consulting cohort, Tata Consultancy Services was the largest recruiter with 14 offers.

In the Laterals process, Amazon made the highest number of offers - 16 job roles including pre-placement offers. Other notable companies like PayTM extended 14 offers, Microsoft made 11 offers and FinIQ hired nine students in the lateral process. In addition to this, there were 41 new recruiters this year, including Eversana, Five Holdings, Intueri Consulting among others.

“We are grateful for the continued trust from our recruiters who not only increased the variety and diversity of roles but also exceeded their commitments on all fronts. We were also able to attract more quality offers from marquee recruiters who continued to hire from the most exceptional pool of talent available in the country today,” said Amit Karna, chairperson of the placement committee at IIMA.
