IIT (BHU) Varanasi to start student exchange programme with Niigata University, Japan

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU), Varanasi, will collaborate with Niigata University, Japan to conduct student exchange programmes, joint research and lectures. An online agreement has been signed by the institutions.

“This academic and research collaboration will likely bring two friendly nations closer and encourage students to be selected and nominated by the home university or institution,” said a statement from IIT BHU Varanasi.

IIT BHU Varanasi and Niigata University will select students for the exchange programme based on their academic performance. According to the statement, the university or institute hosting the students will waive the fees for examination, entrance and tuition.

During an online meeting between the educational institutions, presentations were made on how to start student exchange programmes during the COVID-19 pandemic situation and post-pandemic period. The presentation also included a listing of courses offered and research activities.

Pramod Kumar Jain, director of IIT BHU Varanasi, and Tatsuo Ushiki, president of Niigata University emphasised the need for strengthening collaborations between both the educational institutions.

Recently, IIT Hyderabad has also initiated a collaboration with the Suzuki Motor Corporation, a Japanese company to establish Suzuki Innovation Centre at the IIT Hyderabad campus in order to set up a platform for knowledge sharing.
