NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has launched a new postgraduate programme, MTech in Electric Mobility. It will start from the 2021-’22 academic session and will be offered by the Centre of Automotive Research and Tribology (CART) at IIT Delhi.

Candidates with four year BTech or BE degrees in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, automobile engineering and their various iterations will be eligible to apply. They will also need to have qualified the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in any of these engineering disciplines -- electrical engineering (EE), mechanical engineering (ME), production and industrial engineering. Candidates sponsored by various industries, academic or government organisations will also “be encouraged to apply”, said a statement from IIT Delhi.

The new MTech in electric mobility will be “multidisciplinary in nature and will cover key aspects related to electric vehicles”. Depending on the skills they pick up over the two years, graduates of the programme will find jobs in various industries related to “electric vehicle OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer)”

“The new PG programme has been designed with active participation of leading professionals from academia and industry,” said BK Panigrahi, head, CART. “Moreover, CART is already actively engaged and working with many industries on forefront projects in EVs. The students will get the opportunity to work with state-of-art laboratory facilit[ies] and will also be exposed to work on various simulation software and HIL platforms.”

The Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology at IIT Delhi “focuses on conducting high-end research and development in the area of battery-operated electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, storage and alternate energy sources, autonomous and connected vehicles,” added the statement.
