IIT Guwahati sets up research centre for cancer diagnostics

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has established a Centre for Advanced Research on Diagnostics in Cancer (C-CARD) in collaboration with the private Karkinos Healthcare Private Limited (KHPL)

The agreement was signed on IIT Guwahati’s 29th foundation day. As a part of it, the centre, along with Assam Cancer Care Hospitals, will provide “large-scale OncoDiagnostic services…across the state to prepare a comprehensive cancer atlas for North-East”; establish genome sequencing facilities to “identify the India-specific hereditary origin of this giant killer”; build data analysis capacity using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)”; build capacity on “clinical excellence” through academic collaborations; partner with major biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.

“In the near future, we envision extending this Centre of Excellence with the activities of Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute – the upcoming multi-speciality hospital at IIT Guwahati to inculcate next-generation scientific and technological innovations in the area of healthcare," said IIT Guwahati director TG Sitharam.
