NEW DELHI: An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad-incubated startup, PURE EV, is ready to launch its first electric motorcycle, ETRYST 350. The product has been completely developed, designed and manufactured in India, a statement from the institute said.

ETRYST 350 is scheduled to hit the roads on August 15 this year at a price that would be economical in comparison with conventional motorcycles in Indian markets with similar pickup and power, said the statement.

PURE EV will first launch the electric motorcycle in the metropolitan cities of Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, and then expand to more outlets by the end of 2021.

ETRYST 350 has been designed and developed at PURE EV’s technical and manufacturing centre in Hyderabad. The speed of the product kept at 85 kmph. A single full charge will let it cover 120 km, after which the battery has to be charged again.

PURE EV will deploy 50 vehicles for demonstration by the end of March 2021 to make ETRYST350 available for test drives from specific outlets across India.

“We have been carrying out extensive trials and testing for this product and are confident that the product will deliver highly competitive performance with respect to the existing range of ICE motorcycles and will be another step in the direction of switching customers towards EVs”, said Nishanth Dongari, founder, PURE EV, and associate professor, department of mechanical and aerospace engineering, IIT Hyderabad.

Future Goals

“The launch of this high-performance motorcycle would be a demonstration of PURE EV’s significant learning in the power train design and development at our research and development centre. The core R&D activities of the company are aligned keeping in mind the expectations of the average Indian customer,” Dongari added.

The battery for the motorcycle has been designed to work under tough environmental conditions. PURE EV will be offering a five-year warranty for the in-house designed battery.

The company is also exploring opportunities in other South Asian and South-East Asian countries in the near future. In the long term, PURE EV is planning to expand the product’s market in South America and African continents.
