NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Mandi) has signed agreements with Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL Hyderabad), National Institute of Technology (NIT Uttarakhand) and Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET).
IIT Mandi registrar Kumar Sambhav Pandey said the collaboration will be in academic and research. The agreements aim at enhancing faculty and student exchanges to foster greater collaborations, and expand the footprint of the institute.
AS per the agreement, DRDL will be considered an associated research centre of IIT Mandi. IIT Mandi will facilitate off-campus PhD and MTech (research) registrations for candidates selected by DRDL.
Scientists and engineering officers will have the opportunity to apply as external candidates or part-time doctoral students at IIT Mandi based on their suitability and merit. Students pursuing higher studies in IIT Mandi will have the option to work at DRDL for their MTech and PhD projects, dissertations, or thesis in areas related to the defence sector. The students will also have the flexibility to conduct a portion of their research work at DRDL.
NIT Uttarakhand Bachelor BTech students can explore the option to take courses at IIT Mandi and be considered for early admission to the PhD program without the requirement to qualify in the GATE examination or any other national-level examination.
The agreement with SLIET will allow joint supervision of PhD students, joint workshops and seminars, and the facilitation of student and faculty exchange programs to transfer academic and scholarly information between both institutions.
These collaborations are initially set for a period of five years and have the potential for renewal upon agreement by both partner institutions.
