NEW DELHI: As the 'The Chartered Accountants, the Cost and Works Accountants and the Company Secretaries (Amendment) Bill, 2021’ which includes setting up of an Indian Institute of Accounting (IIA) was passed in Lok Sabha today, several CAs showed disagreement and disappointment. They took to Twitter urging the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and associated ministers not to establish IIA as it would ruin their hard work and efforts.

A CA said in a tweet, “Respected sir Piyush Goyal and Suresh Prabhu you both are #CA . You do understand how prestigious this degree is. Please dont ruin our hard work and efforts by passing such #IIIA bill today. Save #CAs Save ICAI, save #ICAI autonomy.”

Another CA tweeted, “After 5 years of struggle earned the CA Degree. Giving full of time to the work of government. Doing our best for the development of the country..Is there really need of #IIA what goverment want from CA's really disappointed.”

“CA curriculum is not merely about tax computation based on pre-filled data,” a CA said in a tweet.

“The Government can not conduct a single paper in a well manner then why they are overloading there stress on CA PROFESSION . By implementing IIA ..WE ALL ARE AGAINST IIA,” said a Twitter user.

A Twitter user shared a clip and said, “No need of IIA when we have world class CAs which are serving the nation for the last 74 years” by Navneet Rana MP from Amravati.”

Calling for a protest, a CA wrote, “Will request President of ICAI and other CCMs to register a strong protest against the CA Amendment Bill 2021. Organize a protest march against the bill, I am sure most of our fellow brothers & students will support this initiative.”

The IIA, as per the parliamentary panel, will be established by a central law similar to other eminent educational institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM). IIA, like IITs and IIMs, will also be set up in different parts of the country and work closely with these institutions along with National Law Universities, and other national and regional institutions.
