J-K BSc nursing students seek postponement of semester exam; cite short time duration

JKSA wrote to the controller of examination, University of Kashmir to postpone the exam by 1 month.

NEW DELHI: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on behalf of the BSc nursing students has requested the controller of examination, the University of Kashmir to postpone the BSc nursing third semester examinations for batch 2021.

The association stated that the time duration between the second and third semester was short. The second semester ended in May 2023 and the new semester began in June. “ This limited time frame, amounting to just three months, is inadequate to cover a six-month curriculum comprehensively ” an official statement from JKSA read.

The authority issued the BSc nursing date sheet on September 5 for the third-semester exams.

The association further stated that as per the Indian Nursing Council (INC) guidelines, the minimum duration for one semester should not be less than six months which is necessary for both theoretical and clinical practice.

The students said that for the third semester, 420 hours are needed for clinical posting only which is three months.

“Several affiliated colleges have prioritised clinical practice, resulting in a significant shortfall in completing the theoretical components of the curriculum. As a result, students are grappling with a lack of exposure to essential theoretical knowledge required for the upcoming examinations” said the association.

JKSA on behalf of BSc nursing students asked the university to consider postponing the upcoming examinations by at least one month.
