NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court will hear the petition filed by 2021 Class 12 pass out students seeking relaxation for the Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced (JEE Advanced 2023) on April 17.

The plea was filed by 67 students who are Class 12 pass outs of 2021 who could not use their opportunity of JEE Advanced exam because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Live Law reported.

The students sought relaxation of "two attempts in two consecutive years" criteria so that students who didn’t appear twice or even once in 2021 and 2022 be allowed to appear in 2023 as a special provision.

On March 23, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav heard the plea and granted 7 days time to file rejoinder.

“A relaxation is also sought regarding the criteria of 75% aggregate marks in the Class 12 board exam to get admission to IIT,” it said.

In January 2023, however, the ministry of education after several requests from students relaxed the JEE Advanced 2023 eligibility criteria. It said that the top 20 percentile students of each education board will be eligible to seek admission in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and appear for JEE Advanced even if they haven't scored 75% marks in Class 12.

Through JEE Advanced 2023, IITs offer admission into undergraduate courses leading to a bachelors, Integrated Masters, Bachelor-Master dual degree in engineering, sciences, or architecture.
