NEW DELHI: The Jamia Millia Islamia’s (JMI) faculty of education was visited by an academic delegation from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Sara Begum, dean faculty of education welcomed the Australian delegation in the seminar hall of the faculty.

The university organised an interactive programme for the faculty members and the delegation to share their experiences. Begum briefed the delegation about the history of the faculty and how it has evolved from the Teachers Training Institute (TTI) into the Faculty of Education.

Jessy Abraham, head, department of teacher training and non-formal education (IASE) highlighted the department’s teacher education programmes.

Arshad Ikram Ahmad, head, department of educational studies highlighted the contribution of the department in the field of research, innovation, educational technology. He stated that the department has contributed to the development of e-content and other resources and also aided in conducting the training of in-service teachers and principals.

Ahmad said, “The department is progressing with leaps and bounds with the dynamic faculty members of the department and there is a kind of rejuvenation in the department.”

As per the university, the Australian delegation members were impressed to see the diverse, inclusive, and dynamic nature of the faculty. They also visited the interior decoration lab in IASE and saw the innovative work of the students.

The delegation showed keen interest in establishing bilateral educational and cultural ties between JMI and the University of Melbourne and an agreement between the two universities is likely to be signed soon to initiate the exchange programme. The programme concluded with Mohammad Asjad Ansari, assistant proctor and programme coordinator DElEd proposing a vote of thanks.
