JNU academic council approves exit option for BTech-MTech dual degree students

The UGC had earlier clarified that the dual-degree programme will come under the multiple-entry-multiple-exit mandate in line with the NEP 2020.

NEW DELHI: In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Academic Council (AC) has approved the exit option to the engineering students of dual degree programmes.

The JNU academic council in a meeting "approved to offer the exit options to the students of dual degree (four year BTech and one year MTech/MS) programme in School of Engineering admitted from 2018-19 batch onward subject to their successful completion of BTech programme in terms of requirement of credits and CGPA/FGPA for award of BTech degree".

The University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M Jagadesh Kumar on April 12 made an announcement to allow students to pursue two full-time academic programmes simultaneously either at the same university or from different universities.

As per the UGC guidelines, a student can pursue two full-time academic programmes in physical mode or in online mode or up to two online programmes simultaneously.

The commission had earlier clarified that the dual-degree programme will come under the multiple-entry-multiple-exit mandate in line with the NEP 2020. As per the guidelines, students can choose to drop from one course and join another as per their wish, provided they fulfill the credit requirements.

Moreover, if a student wishes to join another additional programme, they can do so anytime during the course of their first degree or diploma programme.
