JNU issues advisory on security on campus; coordinates with police on investigation of harassment case

The Delhi police registered two cases regarding an incident where four men allegedly entered the JNU campus and tried to assault female students.

NEW DELHI: In response to the recent incident of harassment of female students inside the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus the institute has released an advisory strongly condemning the happening. As per the advisory, JNU has taken serious note of the incident and has lodged a police complaint, signalling its commitment to ensure justice and accountability.

Working in close coordination with the police, the JNU administration is actively involved in the investigation process. It has recommended the strictest possible punishment for the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

JNU's advisory reads: "JNU Administration strongly condemns the incident of yesterday night. It has taken serious note of the incident and a police complaint has been lodged. JNU Administration has been closely coordinating with the police in the process of investigation. It has recommended strictest punishment to perpetrators of the crime."

In the advisory, the residents are urged to come forward with any information related to the incident and are advised to immediately contact the security branch at 011-26742878 and 011-26704742 or reach out to the police.

Furthermore, the JNU administration is taking proactive measures to enhance the security of campus residents. Through the advisory it stated that it will stand firm in its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of violence, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of the JNU community.

"Strict action will be taken against the culprits who are found to have indulged in such misconducts. All the stakeholders are requested to cooperate with the JNU administration to ensure safe and secure campus", the advisory further added.

Emphasizing the highest priority given to the safety and fearless movement of women on campus, the JNU administration reaffirms its dedication to enforcing stringent laws against sexual harassment in all its forms and from any individual.
