National Forensic Sciences University launches BSc LLB with data science and law

Gujarat's NFSU has introduced a unique five-year integrated BSc LLB programme. It will begin from September 2021. The last day to apply is August 21.

NEW DELHI: The National Forensic Sciences University in Gujarat has introduced a one-of-a-kind BSc LLB with data science and law programme starting from September 2021.

The last day to apply to this five-year integrated programme is August 21. The eligibility criteria for the programme is 60 percent or above in science stream in Class 12. Whereas 55 per cent or comparable marks are necessary for the SC or ST and PwD category students.

The programme with a fee of Rs 50,000 to make it affordable and accessible to a larger number of aspiring lawyers, offers only 40 seats at a time to give a more focused mentoring experience to the students. It aims to nurture aspiring lawyers with a more advanced approach.

“The programme will allow the students to be able to link mathematical approaches, statistics, computing, commercial decisions, and communication with the law to qualify for one of the world's most in-demand and respected occupations,” a statement from NFSU said.

A few lawyers are proficient in data analysis or machine learning. These professionals with dual expertise can use this programme to find innovative methods to use data science to improve access to justice, increase settlement rates, and improve the efficiency of legal practice and the legal system as a whole, the statement added.

J M Vyas, Vice-Chancellor of the National Forensic Sciences University said: “We are immensely proud to introduce this new program that may change the course for the functioning of the legal sector. Being the world’s only university solely dedicated to forensic and investigative sciences, we aim to produce India’s most technologically advanced lawyers with the bigger goal of making the world a better and safer place to live.”

In September 2020, Lok Sabha had passed a bill to upgrade the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University to National Forensic Sciences University.
