NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a revised notification for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 on neet.nta.nic.in. The revised notification by the NTA includes the details on 27% reservation to candidates belonging to Other Backward Class (OBC) and 10% for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in all medical UG seats of the central pool.

The reservation approved by the central government on July 29, will take effect from the current academic session 2021-22. The revised NEET reservation will benefit nearly 1500 OBC and also around 550 EWS students in MBBS every year. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has also issued a notice regarding the same.

NEET 2021 application form last date has been extended till August 10. The eligible candidates can register for NEET 2021 at neet.nta.nic.in. After the submission of the application form, NTA will open the facility of NEET correction window 2021 on August 11.

NEET UG 2021: Reservation in AIQ seats

Consequently, the overall reservation for admission to Undergraduate (UG) Medical Courses (MBBS/ BDS) under 15% All India Quota seats, would be as follows:

  • S.C.- 15%

  • S.T.- 7.5%

  • O.B.C.- (Non-Creamy Layer) as per the Central OBC List- 27%

  • EWS- As per Central Government norms- 10%

  • PwD- 5% Horizontal Reservation as per NMC norms

Centre approves NEET 2021 reservation in state medical colleges

On July 29, 2021, the central government approved the 27% reservation to candidates belonging to OBCs and 10% reservation for EWS aspirants in the All India Quota Scheme for undergraduate students.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted that “This will immensely help thousands of our youth every year get better opportunities and create a new paradigm of social justice in our country.”

After the announcement of NEET UG 2021 reservation, the Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly, R Selvam, in a press release said, "This is a historic announcement on the part of the Prime Minister and the Centre and by this step the Prime Minister had vindicated his intention to promote the welfare of the OBCs."

NEET UG is scheduled to be conducted on September 12, 2021, for admission to 83,075 MBBS, 26,949 BDS, 52,720 AYUSH, and 525 BVSc and AH seats including 1,899 AIIMS and 249 JIPMER seats.
