NEW DELHI: The CBI booked a Maharashtra-based coaching institute for alleged involvement in cheating in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2021). The Central Board of Investigation (CBI) found that the accused impersonated as students and appeared for the medical entrance examination, NDTV reported.

The coaching centre ensured to get admission to the top medical colleges in exchange for money. The proxies took Rs 50 lakh per candidate to clear the examination.

In the ongoing investigation, it was also found that the applicants' data were modified and in some cases, the OMR sheets were manipulated, the report said.

“A Maharashtra-based coaching centre RK Education Career Guidance, its Director Parimal Kotpalliwar and several students have been charged in the scam, sources in the CBI said,” according to the NDTV report.

The investigation revealed that the coaching centre obtained usernames and passwords of NEET 2021 candidates and changes were made in their admit cards, photographs were morphed, copies of e-Aadhaar were made to ensure entry of proxy candidates into exam centres, the report added.

An FIR was filed on the NEET 2021 exam date, September 12, however, the impersonators did not turn up for the exam while the agency officials were waiting at the centres to arrest them.

A day before the medical entrance exam, there were rumours of a NEET paper leak. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) denied any paper leak or security breach.

The Jaipur Police had arrested 8 people including a girl from the examination centre in Rajasthan Institute of Engineering and Technology. Varanasi police had also made two more arrests in connection with cheating the NEET exams 2021.
