NEW DELHI: A high-level committee set up to assess the impact of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, or NEET 2021, on aspirants, has sought public opinion on the matter via newspaper advertisements.

Tamil Nadu residents have been requested to send their opinion on NEET UG either by post or email on or before June 23, 2021. People can also send their feedback in person at the Director of Medical Education campus. Email can be sent on neetimpact2021@gmail.com.

The committee, led by Justice A K Ranjan, will study whether NEET-based admission to medical and dental colleges has affected students of Tamil Nadu.

On June 10, the Tamil Nadu Government had constituted a panel to examine NEET exam and aspirants from the socially disadvantaged sections in medical admissions. The committee is expected to make its recommendations in a month.

As per PTI reports, eight members including Dr. G R Ravindranath (Doctors Association for Social Equality), Jawahar Nesan (educationist), and six top government officials including the principal secretary of the medical and family welfare department are part of the committee.

Almost all parties in Tamil Nadu including the ruling DMK and main opposition AIADMK have been demanding that the NEET be scrapped arguing that it went against social justice. The opposition to the national level entrance exam grew after several students and a dalit student died by suicide last year.

Earlier this month, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin wrote to prime minister Narendra Modi asking him to scrap all large-scale entrance exams for professional courses due to COVID-19. Stalin pointed out that the Class 12 board exam had been cancelled due to the pandemic and pen-and-paper entrance tests administered at exam centres raise the same concerns.
