NEW DELHI: Days after the University of Delhi had suspended the semester examinations, the university is preparing to hold the examinations in online mode. As the lockdown has been extended further till May 3 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the DU computer centre has been asked to come up with a platform to conduct the semester examinations in online mode.

This development has been confirmed by a DUCC official, as per a report by The Times of India (which quoted IANS). According to the report, the DUCC official was quoted saying, “We have received instructions from the top brass in administration and have started to explore options on this. We are seeing if we need to bring up a smartphone application for it or the website can work.”

Though this has been in the planning phase, however, the final decision in this regard will be taken after the committee formed by the UGC and MHRD gives it a green signal.

The report further quoted Vinay Gupta, Dean of DU's Examination Centre, saying, “We see online examinations as the only way to conduct examinations, especially in times when students should not leave their houses. But the final decision can only be taken after committees report.”

Not only this, but it was also clarified by the dean that semester I and II students will not be promoted to the next level without any exams.
