CA Exam 2020: ICAI announces flexibility in November 2020 exams due to student pressure

NEW DELHI: ICAI (The Institute of Chartered Accountant of India) has provided an opt-out facility for students who have applied for CA November 2020 exam. The decision was taken due to a large number of student requests and viewing COVID-19 safety considerations.

By selecting the opt-out option, students can carry forward their candidature, application fee and other details to November cycle- II in the second half of January 2021 or the first half of February 2021. The complete CA exam 2020 schedule will be released in December 2020.

Who Can Apply for CA Exam 2020 Opt-out facility?

It should be noted that the OPT-OUT scheme will be available to students only if they fulfil the following conditions any time up to the conclusion of exams:

• They should be COVID positive currently or have symptoms.

• Their family members or people with who they are staying are COVID-19 positive or become COVID-19 Positive.

• If their area of residence is declared as a Containment Zone by the Central Government/State Government/Local Authorities

Under the new flexible options, if the student has appeared for papers in a particular group and wants to opt-out due to the reasons mentioned above, then they will have to appear for all the papers of their group in the next examination cycle. Shifting some of the papers of the same group will not be allowed.

However, if the student had appeared for all the papers for a group and opts out for another group, then the group for which he had appeared will be completely considered and the student can write for the other group in the next examination cycle.

Students who are falling under the OPT-OUT conditions shall be allowed to appear for May 2021 examinations by opting out of November 2020 examination. In this case, they will have to fill a fresh examination form and apply at the relevant time for the May 2021 examination.

The examination fee will be adjusted for these students and only some differential fee will be charged. (Differential fee will be charged if they applied for one group in the November 2020 exams and want to appear for both groups for the May 2021 exams cycle).

How to Apply for CA 2020 Opt-Out?

In order to avail of the OPT-OUT scheme, the candidates need to submit a declaration on the official- icaiexam.icai.org website available from November 7, 2020 (9:00 pm).

Once, they submit the declaration the candidates will be given an option to cancel their November 2020 cycle I application and shift it to next November tranche-II cycle in the second half of January 2021 or the first half of February 2021 Or they can appear in the May 2021 Examination Cycle.

CA November 2020 exams will commence as decided from November 21, 2020 for all the remaining students. All precautions and measures as per the Government guidelines regarding COVID-19.
