NEW DELHI: Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (SVKM NMIMS) School of Technology Management and Engineering (STME) has introduced BTech in computer engineering and BTech in computer science and engineering data science courses at its Chandigarh and Jadcherla (Hyderabad) campuses. Interested candidates can apply for the course on the NMIMS admission portal -- apply.nmims.edu.

The course duration of both the new NMIMS STME BTech programmes is four years. To be eligible to apply for these courses, candidates must have passed the Class 12 or equivalent examinations from a recognized board. The BTech in computer engineering aims to inculcate among students, expertise in modern engineering practices and disruptive technologies. NMIMS claims that the curriculum of the new programme is of international standards and that it includes mathematics, basic sciences, humanities, and computer engineering. The BTech in computer science and engineering data science curriculum includes engineering, mathematics, analytics management, and general education related to modern skillsets of data science, said a statement from NMIMS University.

According to NMIMS, both the programmes are approved by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and are designed to create career and entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth in Punjab, Haryana, and Telangana, claims the institute.

Sharad Mhaiskar, pro-vice- chancellor, SVKM’s NMIMS, said, “With an increasing number of top tech companies finding roots in Punjab and Haryana, requirement for youth with future-ready technical skill is seeing a major uptrend. As per reports, there was a nearly 50 percent increase in the number of data science jobs in the country in the past year, and this is likely to grow in the future with 11.5 million more openings by 2026. NMIMS, which has made a name for delivering holistic education and create a sustainable society, has recognised the urgent need to bring in programs to meet this demand and prepare aspiring engineers in Punjab and Haryana for expanding career opportunities.”

Speaking on the BTech courses introduced in the NMIMS Jadcherla campus, Mhaiskar said, “Till a few years ago, Telangana was facing a shortage of admissions in engineering programs. This was due to a lack of job opportunities as well as the presence of wide skill gaps owing to programs that were not in tandem with the rapidly changing IT sector. However, this trend is now reversing and there is a resurgence of demand for up-to-date engineering programs owing to the near complete adoption of digitization, development of infrastructure in the state, and entry of multinational IT firms like Facebook and Amazon. What we will particularly see are an exponential rise in Data Science jobs. As per reports, as many as 11.5 million jobs are expected by 2026. NMIMS recognised the urgent need to bring in programs that can address the skill gaps in the engineering field and prepare youngsters for the flourishing career opportunities,”
