Relax JEE Main 2023 eligibility criteria as one-time measure: MP urges Dharmendra Pradhan

MP Karti P Chidambaram wrote to Dharmendra Pradhan seeking an extra attempt for students who had their last attempt in 2022 in JEE Main 2023, JEE Advanced 2023.

NEW DELHI: Karti P Chidambaram, Member of Parliament, has urged the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, to intervene and relax the eligibility criteria for students appearing in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023 and JEE Advanced 2023 as a one-time measure. In a letter to the education minister, the Congress MP demanded relaxation for candidates who had their last attempt in the 2022 exam.

Chidambaram said, “I would like to bring to your attention concerns raised by students who appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains and Advanced in 2022. These aspirants studied hard to secure an admission into India’s leading engineering institutes, however, several hurdles which were completely outside their control, denied them a fair opportunity at the exam.”

The MP argued that both the JEE Main 2022 sessions which were held in the months of June and July were marred with a “multitude” of technical glitches such as computer system getting shut down multiple times, frozen screen for several minutes, questions taking too long to load, incomplete questions, etc. As a result, several candidates witnessed huge decrease in their scores, percentile.

Moreover, several students were unable to sit for the JEE Main 2022 exam due to last-minute centre changes. Post exam, many candidates also faced discrepancies in response sheets and errors in JEE Main 2022 results.

“A significant number of students who fell prey to these difficulties in JEE Main or JEE Advanced were availing their last attempt at these exams this year. For students who graduate in Class 12 in 2020, it was their last attempt at both JEE Main and JEE Advanced this year, and for those that graduated in 2021, it was their last attempt at JEE Advanced this year,” the letter read.

“In light of this matter, I urge you to intervene and order a one-time exemption to relax the eligibility criteria for all students appearing for JEE Main and advanced exams in 2023. This will save the hassle of identifying specific students who faced difficulties in the 2022 exams,” Chidambaram further said.
