All the schools have been closed since mid-March last year when the novel Coronavirus hit the nation. Schools have adopted online education as a mode of study causing a massive transformation in the education sector. However, reopening of schools in offline mode is not mandatory. The school reopening decision will be made voluntarily by the states.

Maharashtra school reopening updates
On July 5, Maharashtra government passed a resolution to reopen schools for Classes 8 to 12 in "COVID-19-free gram panchayats". The schools can reopen after discussing with parents and are required to strictly adhere to the COVID-appropriate standard operating procedure (SOP), as per a report of Hindustan Times. Gujarat education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, “Schools will be reopened in Gujarat after a decision is taken in a high-level meeting of the state government. UP government has decided to open schools for online studies, reports Aaj Tak. Only teachers and other staff members are allowed to reach the school. No student is allowed to enter the school. The report further says that Class 1 to 8 schools will open from July 1 for the following activities:
- Distribute the transfer certificate (TC) to Class 8 passed students.
- Enrollment of 100 per cent children.
- The work of transferring the amount of mid-day meal and school dress to the bank account of the children will continue.
- Free textbooks will be distributed.
- E-pathshala will function under mission Prerna, in which students will attend classes in online mode.
