St Joseph Engineering College suspends students for dancing in burqas; video goes viral
The engineering college clarified that the dance was not part of the approved programme. Viral video showed four students dancing to bollywood song.
NEW DELHI: St Joseph Engineering College in Karnataka’s Mangalore has suspended students for unapproved dance during an event. A video went viral on social media showing four male students dancing in burqas to a bollywood song. The college clarified on social media that the dance was not part of the programme and it does not support such activities.
The college also said that the students belong to the Muslim community and barged on stage during the “informal” part of the event.
“The video clip being circulated in social media has captured a part of the dance by students of the muslim community itself who barged on stage during the informal part of students association inaugural,” SJEC said in a tweet.
“It was not part of the approved program and the students involved have been suspended pending enquiry. The college does not support or condone any activities that could harm the harmony between communities and everyon,” the engineering college added.

On a similar note, in October, the Resident Doctors Association of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) had issued an apology and clarification after a video went viral in which students of the medical college were allegedly seen mocking Sudama and Lord Krishna by portraying Sudama as a drunkard during a cultural fest. The medical association informed that the group which performed the act has been banned.
