Tamil Nadu Rains: Schools closed in Vellore for Class 1 to 5 due to heavy rainfall

NEW DELHI: The Vellore district administration has directed all schools to suspend classes 1 to 5 due to heavy rains in the state. Rain lashed several districts of Tamil Nadu yesterday.

In view of the incessant rain, all schools in Vellore district has been directed to suspend classes for Class 1 to 5 on September 21.

“Waterlogging was witnessed at Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway in Konavattam due to heavy rainfall in Vellore. District Administration has suspended classes for std 1-5 in all schools of the district due to the rainfall,” the ANI reported.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu on September 21 and 22. “Light to moderate #rain with one or two intense spells may occur over Northeast India, coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and Uttarakhand. Scattered light to moderate rain is possible over UttarPradesh, Vidarbha, West Madhya Pradesh, TamilNadu, interior Karnataka,” SkyMet weather predicted.


In June, the state had declared a holiday for schools in Chennai and its neighbouring districts of Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur, besides Vellore and Ranipet due to heavy rains.
