THE World University Rankings 2023: IISc only Indian institute in top 300

IIT Ropar, JMI are the only institutes in the top 600. BHU, JNU, DTU ranked at 601-700. Delhi University placed in the 1001-1200 band.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru (IISc) is the only Indian institute to rank in top 300 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) made it to the top 600 universities.

JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research ranked at 351-400 followed by Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences making its debut this year in Times Rankings.

Tamil Nadu’s Alagappa University and Kerala’s Mahatma Gandhi University secured places in 401-500 band. Saveetha Institute of Technical and Medical Sciences also made it to the top 600.

13 Indian institutes ranked in the 601-700 band including Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Delhi Technological University (DTU), IIT Indore, IIIT Delhi, Jamia Hamdard University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, IIT Patna, IIT Gandhinagar, Lovely Professional University (LPU), NIT Hamipur, NIT Tiruchirapalli, and Panjab University ranked at 801-1000.

Delhi University (DU) has been placed in 1001-1200 band along with NIT Jalandhar, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, IISER Kolkata, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Guwahati, IIT ISM Dhanbad, IIT Mandi, Jadavpur University, NIT Rourkela, and Pondicherry University.

Globally, the University of Oxford retains the top spot for the seventh consecutive year in THE World University Rankings 2023. 1,799 universities from 104 countries and regions are ranked this year, 137 more than last year.
