NEW DELHI: Prime minister, Narendra Modi interacted with nearly 1.2 lakh Toycathon 2021 participants across India in a virtual grand finale on Thursday. The entries to reach this final stage included games based on yoga, heritage tourism, learning chemistry and war strategies described in epics.

A part of PM Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Toycathon 2021 is a unique platform allowing crowd-sourcing of ideas for innovative toys and games.Students, teachers, startups, and toy professionals in India submitted their novel toy and game concepts under online and physical toy categories. According to the ministry of education, a total of 1,29,573 people registered for Toycathon 2021.

“These toys deeply influence mental strength, our creativity, and our economy. The global toy market is 100 billion and India contributes only 1.5 billion to this economy. We are importing 80 percent of our toys,” said Modi. To remedy that, Modi called for strengthening the local toy market with new technology and innovation that can compete and thrive in the global market.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the online grand finale will feature teams with digital toy ideas. Toycathon 2021 is aimed at boosting the toy industry in India to help it capture a wider share of the toy market.
