NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the registration process of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) December 2023. Candidates aspiring to pursue a career in higher education can fill the UGC NET December 2023 application form on the official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in, till October 28.

However, candidates will be able to pay the examination fee till October 29. Aspirants belonging to the unreserved category will have to pay a fee of Rs 1,150 whereas those from EWS and OBC-NCL will have to pay Rs 600. Students from SC, ST, and PwD categories will have to submit Rs 325.

UGC NET 2023: Eligibility criteria

There is no age limit for candidates applying for assistant professor. Aspirants of unreserved categories should have secured 55% marks in master’s degree or equivalent examination from an institution or university recognised by the UGC. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwD and OBC-NCL categories should have a master’s degree with 50% marks.

Students who have a PhD degree and completed their master’s level examination will be awarded 5% relaxation in aggregate marks. Candidates who have completed their final year of master’s exam or those who are waiting for their results can also apply for the exam. However, candidates have to pass their master’s degree to be considered eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship/Eligibility for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET December: Exam pattern

The UGC NET will consist of two computer-based tests. UGC NET Paper-1 will have 50 objective type questions carrying two marks each. The questions in this section will in the sections – reasoning, comprehension, general awareness, divergent thinking to assess the candidates’ research and teaching aptitude. UGC NET Paper 2 will have of 100 objective type questions of two marks each based on the subject selected by the candidate. There is no provision of negative marking in this paper.

UGC NET 2023: Qualifying marks

General category candidates will have to get at least 40% marks to clear the UGC NET while those from OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PWD, and transgenders categories have to secure a minimum of 35% marks in both papers. The cut-off of UGC NET is released by NTA separately for candidates who qualify for lectureship and JRF.

UGC NET mock test

Candidates can appear for the UGC NET mock test on the official website of National Testing Agency (NTA) – nta.ac.in. Candidates can directly select the required paper and proceed to take to mock test of the UGC NET exam. Candidates can follow these steps to attempt the UGC NET mock test,

  • Visit the NTA official website - nta.ac.in
  • Click on the ‘mock test’ button on the homepage
  • Select the ‘UGC NET’ and your paper
  • Click on ‘start mock test’ link
  • To start the mock test, click on the ‘Login’ button
  • Now, click on the ‘Proceed’ button to start the test.
