The CBSE drew sharp criticism from political leaders and students for allegedly having ‘casteist text’ in its textbook. Actor-politician Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam raised objections against a chapter on ‘Varna system’ and urged central government and CBSE to ensure that the lessons on caste system be removed from textbooks.
Replying to the Makkal Needhi Maiam tweet, the CBSE clarified, “The Class 6 History textbook containing topics on Varnas has been wrongly attributed as published by CBSE. This is factually incorrect. It is clarified that CBSE does not publish History textbooks, thus the matter does not relate to CBSE.”
Despite the CBSE clarification on the issue, the image of text on the Varna system has been circulating on social media.
Meanwhile, CBSE will close the online exam form submission window for Class 10, 12 private candidates for board exams 2023 today, as per the schedule released earlier.
