Woxsen University hosts international photography seminar in partnership with Sony India

NEW DELHI: The school of arts and design of Woxsen University hosted an international photography seminar on the campus on April 12, 2023. A statement from the university said that the seminar was organised in partnership with Sony India private limited and was themed "Society and Pedagogy".

As many as 26 students pursuing photography at Telangana tribal welfare residential fine arts academy (TTWR-FAA) had been invited to the seminar. The seminar took place in two segments, comprising four keynote lectures and two round-table discussions. Programme director of Digital and fine arts and photography at UCA Farnham, Caroline Molloy delivered a lecture on 'Living with photography'.

Post this, Amity University professor, highlighted the issue of manipulated and stereotyped lifestyle caused by social media through his session titled 'Instafake: Filtered photography'. Following this, head of the photography department of TTWR-FAA Raghu Thomas gave a lecture on 'Art and Rework with tribals: How Tribals think?'.

Later in the seminar, panel discussions took place, which were followed by a workshop conducted by the Sony team. The workshop underlined the technical and aesthetical appraisal of photography. The team members delivered dialogues on technical aspects of photography such as managing lights, using different tools as expected outcome and constructing a narrative using all such tools.

Dean of school of arts and design of Woxsen University Aditya Saxena said: "International photography seminars can play an important role in developing discourse in the context of photography study and research in India by promoting cross-cultural exchange, providing exposure to new ideas and techniques and creating networking opportunities for students, academicians and enthusiastic photography audiences". He also termed the seminar to be unique in the Indian context.
