45 Indian institutions in QS World Rankings 2024; IIT Bombay best in country

IIM Bangalore has been ranked best in MBA category of QS World Rankings 2024. Stanford Graduate Business School is the best B-school in world
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) has topped the QS World Rankings 2024 among Indian institutions. This year 45 institutions from the country have been included in the QS World Rankings.
IIT Bombay has been ranked 149 with a score of 51.7. It is followed by IIT Delhi (197), Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (225), IIT Kharagpur (271), IIT Kanpur (278), IIT Madras (285), IIT Guwahati (364), IIT Roorkee (369) and University of Delhi (407). Other Indian universities in the top 500 includes Anna University (427) and IIT Indore (454).
IISc Bangalore has seen a substantial dip as it dropped from 155th position in 2023 to 225th this year. This is the lowest ranking of IISc Bangalore in the QS World University Rankings. However, IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee and Anna University have gained their best positions in the QS World University Rankings this year.
Ranking criteria
In the 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings, 1,500 institutions across 104 locations. The institutes were ranked on nine criterias – employer reputation, academic reputation, citation per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, international research network, faculty student ratio, employment outcomes and sustainability. IITs were usually scored high in employer reputation, academic reputation and citations per faculty. They lagged behind in international faculty ratio, international student ratio, international research network, faculty student ratio.
MIT tops ranking
Massachusetts Institute of Technology has topped the QS World University Rankings 2024. It is followed by Cambridge University, Oxford University, Harvard University and Stanford University. In Asia, National University of Singapore has been ranked the best. A total of five European institutions, four American and one Asian universities are in the top 10.
IIM Bangalore best B-School
Indian Institute of Management (IIM Bangalore) has been ranked 48 in the MBA category of QS World University Rankings 2024. It is the only Indian institution to be ranked among top 50. However, IIM Ahmedabad (53), IIM Calcutta (59) and Indian School of Business (ISB Hyderabad, 78) are among top 100 B-schools.
The category has been topped by Stanford Graduate Business School. It is followed by Penn (Wharton), Harvard Business School, London BUsiness School and HEC Paris, respectively.
