All India Korean language speech contest held in DU

NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 13: The 11^th All India Korean Language Speech Contest was held at Delhi University to promote Korean culture and language. The event which was organised by Korean Cultural Centre India and supported by Asiana Airlines witnessed the participation of 29 students from across the country. 

Expressing his delight on the occasion, H. E. Shin Bongkil, said, “The growing interest in Korean language learning in India shows how strong and deep is our bilateral relations. The strong friendship between two business communities, and co-operation between our two governments has become the Hallmark in the recent years”.

The occasion was graced by Kim Kum Pyoung, Director of Korean Cultural Centre, Prof. Unita Sachidanand from Delhi University and Prof. Ravikesh from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The theme of the contest was ‘India-Korea, future of the bilateral relation’ and the participants were from Korean language departments of the University of Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University and King Sejong Institute.

The students competed in three different levels. The winners were awarded with scholarship worth Rs. 6.4 lakh supported by Asian Airlines.

Highlighting that the participating students will act as a bridge between India and Korea, Kim Kum-Pyoung, Director of Korean Cultural Centre, India, said,“They will do a great role in the future of the bilateral relationship in various filed with their deep understanding of Korean culture and society they learnt from Korean language," he said.

Beside language efficiency students were also able to share their deep knowledge on the emerging strengths and closer ties which both the countries are creating. The event also showed the growing interest of Indian students in learning Korean language.

There are around 20 higher educational institutions offering Korean language class in certificate or degree course in India. Recently Indira Gandhi National Open University inaugurated its first certificate course in Korean language and culture which saw the registration of 800 students till now.
