Amity University extends support to ministry of jal shakti for National Mission for Clean Ganga

The agreement is aimed at providing education, creating awareness and building initiatives to ensure cleanliness of the Ganga river.

NEW DELHI: Amity University signed an agreement with the Ministry of Jal Shakti for the success of the mission titled "National Mission for clean Ganga (NMCG)" today on April 12, 2023. The agreement was signed in New Delhi in a 'Namami Gange Universities connect programme', in the presence of Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) TG Sitaram and other officials. Apart from Amity, 50 other Indian universities also signed the agreement to save water.

Under the agreement, the Bachelor of science (BSc), Master of science (MSc) and doctorate of philosophy (PhD) students in environmental sciences will be able to conduct research work with regard to the internship and dissertation at NMCG.

As per a statement issued by the university, the agreement is aimed at providing education, creating awareness and building measures to help spread awareness on river rejuvenation among youths in general and Namami Gange programme in particular, and use the exuberance of youths in contributing to the cause.

Minister of Jal Shakti, Shekhawat called upon the universities to take a step in this direction and said: "There is a need to create a dialogue between the academicians, government and private stakeholders to dwell upon how to preserve and conserve water to create a water wise society. Management of water is the need of the hour, therefore universities should teach the youths the efficacy of water and also set up a research centre on water in universities".

Director general of NMCG G Ashok Kumar invited the best of the universities present on the occasion to involve the students in research, technology, data management and several other areas to work in water conservation with people's participation.

Chairman of Amity law school DK Bandopadhyay, Joint coordinator of Amity institute of environmental science Renu Dhupper and representatives of other universities were also present during this.
