NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will close the application for admission to its first offshore campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Candidates seeking admission to BSc programme in data science and artificial intelligence (AI) and a two-year MTech programme in data science and AI at the IIT Zanzibar campus can apply at Students will then have to appear for a screening test. The screening test for BS programme at IIT Zanzibar will be held on September 3 and the test for MTech will be held on August 20.

IIT Madras Zanzibar campus is offering a total of 70 seats in the BSc programme. The programmes at IIT Zanzibar are open to students of all nationalities. The academic session at IIT Zanzibar will begin on October 24.

Candidates will have to pay 12,000 US dollars per year for UG programmes in IIT Zanzibar and 4,000 US dollars for PG programmes excluding hostel fees.

IIT Zanzibar Admission Eligibility: Age criteria

For the BS programmes, the candidate must have passed Class 12 or equivalent in the last three years, meaning thereby, candidates who have completed the qualifying exam prior to 2020 are not eligible.

For the MTech programmes, there is no age limit as such. Anyone who meets the minimum eligibility criteria in terms of educational qualification can apply.

The new IIT campus in Tanzania seeks to deepen research collaborations with other top-ranked academic institutions world-wide. While the academic programmes, curricula, student selection aspects and pedagogical details will be determined by IIT Madras, the capital and operating expenditure will be met by the Zanzibar-Tanzania government.
