'Approach our counseling services to deal with this loss': IIT Delhi's condolence message on death of student

NEW DELHI: After a student, Ayush Ashna, from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, allegedly dies by suicide, the institute in a condolence message has said ‘the pain inflicted by Ayush's loss to his family is unimaginable’. Ashna has been a resident of Udaigiri hostel and had just appeared in his final-year exams.

Urging all students to be there for each other, IIT Delhi in a statement said: “In this challenging time, we urge all of you to be there for each other and request you to please approach our counseling services if you need help in coping with this loss.”

“As distraught as we are, the pain inflicted by Ayush's loss to his family is unimaginable. We sincerely hope for them to be able to garner some strength to deal with this inexplicable Loss,” the institute statement added.

The police, the IIT Delhi statement said, took custody of Ashna’s mortal remains from Udaigiri hostel in the presence of his family and are investigating the causes of the death.

The police arrived at the hostel after a call was received at the Kishangarh police station, which falls under the jurisdiction of southwest Delhi, a PTI report said. The room was locked from inside and it was opened in front of his family, a senior police officer said.
