‘Bad timing’: TISSNET aspirants condemn exam cancellation as many did not apply for CAT 2023

NEW DELHI: Various students opposed the decision of Tata Institute of Social Sciences to cancel the TISSNET exam and hold admissions to two postgraduate courses through the Common Admission Test (CAT). The aspirants reasoned that the CAT 2023 registration is over and they did not apply for the test.

Students urged the institute to consider taking the previous exam for the academic year 2024 saying that they should have been notified earlier about admission through CAT.

TISS announced its decision to hold PG admissions through the Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate (CUET PG) 2024 except two courses for which it will accept CAT scores.

An X user said, “The TISS has decided to take admissions in their MA in HRM & LR and also in MA in ODCL on the basis of CAT, but the CAT 2023 application window is already shut. There are many who apply for the TISSNET and not CAT. The timing of the decision is plain bad.”

Another X user wrote, “I'm really concerned and stunned at the same time. I mean how can someone be so irresponsible. What's the logic to cancel tissnet? And even if it was necessary they could h've given this notice earlier. There's cat in 10days and this news has created doubts in mind.”

The National Student Union of India (NSUI) president urged the authorities to look into the matter and said, “Came to know about Official notice from TISS saying they are cancelling Entrance exam for 2 courses. Instead, CAT score will be considered. But CAT registeration is over and CAT is on Nov 26th. Due to this many students haven't registered. Now if something like this happens they’ll lose one year because of this last minute change. I urge the concerned authority to look into this matter and try to save students career from affecting because of this sudden change in the schedule.”

“Not done #TISSNET !!! I am one of those unfortunate students who didn’t register for Cat this year and was solely dependent on OMETS, especially Tiss now suddenly just 12 days before cat, You can’t CANCLE THE EXAMS just like that !,” another student said.
