Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) has signed an agreement with global reinsurance company Swiss Re to strengthen its post graduate diploma in Insurance Business Management (PGDM-IBM). The aim is to give students better industry exposure and prepare them for careers in the insurance sector.

Through this agreement, Swiss Re will work with BIMTECH on course design and mentoring. The idea is to make learning more practical and aligned with what the industry currently needs.

Students will also get opportunities like internships, final placements, and short-term projects. In addition, Swiss Re will organise workshops, webinars, and training sessions to help students understand real-world industry trends.

The agreement will also focus on research, awareness, and outreach activities. It includes leadership development through mentoring and industry-led training, aimed at preparing students to become well-rounded professionals with both broad and specialised skills. The agreement was finalised during an on-campus interaction in the presence of faculty, students, and industry leaders.

Swiss Re and BIMTECH agreement to focus on hands-on learning

As part of the partnership, both sides will develop courses in areas like reinsurance, risk analytics, data science, climate risk, and InsurTech. These subjects are aimed at helping students build skills that are useful in actual job roles.

The agreement also includes live projects and regular interaction with industry experts. This is expected to give students a clearer idea of how the insurance sector works beyond textbooks.

Swiss Re shares insights on careers and industry trends

At the event, Amit Kalra, MD and Head of Swiss Re India, encouraged students to keep learning and adapting. “Learn, unlearn, and relearn, and don’t wait for something to happen,” he said, sharing lessons from his own career journey.

Talking about India, he said, “AI has the potential to help bridge the protection gap.” He also pointed out that many people still see insurance mainly as a tax-saving tool, which needs to change.
