BML Munjal University starts School of Liberal Studies; offers four-year BA (Hons) degree
Students pursuing BA (Hons) degree programme at BMU's School of Liberal Studies will have the option to exit in the third year.
NEW DELHI: BML Munjal University (BMU) has launched the School of Liberal Studies (SoLS), which will offer an interdisciplinary programme in natural sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities.
The SoLS offers a four-year BA (Hons) degree with optional exit opportunity in the third year. Students will have the option to choose a major from six subjects in the second year. The semesters in first-year focuses on foundational and elective courses. It is followed by focus on major and minor coursework in second and third year. In the fourth year, emphasis is on research, internships, and vocational training.
Focus on foundational courses
Students can also select elective options from other four schools of BMU. The university said the programme centres on interdisciplinary foundational courses by introducing students to liberal arts principles and fostering lifelong learning. Some of the courses covered included writing seminars, south Asia in global history, reason and logic, self and identity, sociology, economics, data literacy, and history of science.
Arindam Banerjee, professor and vice dean, SoLS said, “Apart from imparting critical knowledge and skills, the School of Liberal Studies aims to transform students into lifelong learners so that they wholesomely comprehend complex challenges in the contemporary world and can build just and empathetic solutions for the society.”
The inception of SoLS is rooted in the BMU’s commitment for nurturing well-rounded individuals, equipped not only with inter-disciplinary training but also with the skills to navigate complex societal issues, the university said. BMU is an initiative of Hero Group.
