NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 3: In 2006, India and UK entered into a long-term bilateral programme, UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI), with a focus on higher education. The UKIERI is a multi-stakeholder programme involving higher education sector stakeholders and institutions from both countries. The British Council is one of the delivery partners of the UKIERI along with Universities UK International (UUKi) and Association of Colleges.

Over Phase One and Phase Two (2006-2017), the UKIERI has delivered 1,057 institutional partnerships, 25,000 academic exchanges and 2,000 research publications between the two countries. UKIERI Phase Three (2016-2021) aims to promote institutional and individual excellence in educational practices, research, and employability with a focus on three areas: Capacity building and leadership development, Research innovation and partnerships and Skill development in higher education.

As part of the UKIERI programme, and against the backdrop of the NEP 2019, a delegation comprising of UK universities vice chancellors and UUKi representatives are in India to meet Government bodies and university leaders to discuss current and future policy and strategies around internationalisation, research, mobility and employability.
